YOU CAN School Program

The YOU CAN School Program gives students easy-to-understand messages and concrete steps they can use to solve problems and take control of their lives. Our presentations present new options and motivate students to make good choices.
The goal of the YOU CAN School program is to put students in contact with real-life role models who can give them essential skills, shift their thinking, and help them make wise decisions—now and throughout their lives.
The presentations are grouped thematically into four topic areas:

  • The Health & Social Well-being presentations provide down-to-earth suggestions for staying safe and healthy, and learning how to get along with others.
  • The Life Betterment & Career Preparation presentations give students practical tips and suggestions for developing life skills they can use now and that they will need after graduation.
  • Discovery presentations help students understand what it means to be American and how Americans relate to the rest of the world.
  • The Disaster Preparedness series shows students what they can do to stay safe when disasters occur.

HUMVEE School Program

At your request, a National Guard representative will bring a HUMVEE to your school, demonstrate the vehicle’s innovation and technology, and involve the students in a hands-on preventive maintenance check. This demonstration gives students a glimpse into the work routine of a National Guard mechanic or HUMVEE driver.

The HUMVEE School Program can help open doors to exciting and rewarding technical careers. From automotive engineering to vehicle maintenance, the HUMVEE School Program exposes students to the many career paths they have. For students interested in vehicle maintenance careers, learning about HUMVEE history and technology is a unique learning experience.

Guard Fit Challenge

An Army National Guard representative can present Guard Fit Challenge to up to 40 students with an educator in attendance. There are minimal equipment requirements, and the program can be done indoors or outdoors (weather permitting).

The program can be presented during a physical education class or team practice; there are 45-minute and 90-minute versions of the lessons, depending on how much time you have. After a presentation on the Army Physical Fitness Test (APFT), the Army National Guard representative can return to present a full-body workout (core, upper body, and lower body) and a cardio workout. During both of the follow-on lessons, the presenter can measure students’ progress on the APFT.

Guard Fit Challenge is a great opportunity for schools to receive a valuable public service that may help them meet National Association for Sport and Physical Education (NASPE) Content Standards and National Health Education Standards including:

  • NPH.K-12.1 Movement Forms
  • NPH.K-12.2 Movement Concepts
  • NPH.K-12.3 Physical Activity
  • NPH.K-12.4 Physical Fitness
  • NPH.K-12.7 Understanding Challenge
  • NPH-H.9-12.3 Reducing Health Risks
  • NPH-H.9-12.6 Setting Goals for Good Health
